IMPORTANT NOTICE from Nick's Here.
September
5,
2006
Greetings from
Nick's Pizza Stop!
…..and welcome
to the September 2006 edition of Nick’s E-News
It's a busy fall already, with lots of stuff going on in our little town and
at your favorite pizzeria!
New
at Nick's This Fall
New
on our menu: Give
us a call tonight and join the ranks of those who have discovered
these treasures at Nicks...
-
Crispy
Sweet Treats
dessert
medley,
featuring fried brownies, fried bananas foster, and the crown
jewel, a rich creamy hunk of fried cheesecake! A Brownie Bites
basket is also available.
-
Garlic-Romano
wings...garlic,
Romano cheese, fresh-fried jumbo chicken wings. Need I say more?
-
Beef
& Sausage Lasagna
made in limited quantity each Tuesday. Truth be told, it gets
better with age, but we usually sell out by late Wednesday night
so don't wait too long to try it! (And remember, we do not have
pasta of any kind on Fridays and Saturdays...so many pizza people
ordering, we keep all available hands on dough!)
-
Calzones
are now officially on the menu and no longer a 'periodic special'
...and the same is true for
Tiramisu!
New
in our dining room: We'll
be rearranging things a bit in our dining room in the coming weeks, to
make way for a display of historical artifacts relating to Grantville
and the A& WP railroad. We'll also be setting up a
"Grantville History Project" station, to challenge
your memory and encourage participation in our community genealogy,
business history and mapping projects. There will still be
plenty of room for dining in, so come on down for some memory making
at Nick's!
New
On the Road for Nick's:
This weekend, Mike will be delivering your dinner with the same friendly
smile but in a new driving style...the familiar 'little brown car' has
gone into retirement and Mike will be heading your way in his new blue
pickup truck. And Leigh Ann Olsen is back at Nick's to help with
deliveries and dining room service on Friday nights!
New
Online for Nick's: We
have updated content throughout this website, including a new
selection of activities and links on the Cheesy
Fun page! We'd like your help in updating the photo gallery
- please send shots of your family enjoying Nick's! We also invite you
to add comments in our new online guestbook.
We've
also added a new Short Menu - with
pricing! It's kinda hard to read but for those of you who want to be
able to print something for quick reference, it might work. You will
need Acrobat Reader to open the file. This menu will be included in
our next mailing.
Around
Town This Fall
Citi-Fest
2006...Join
us for Grantville
Citi-Fest on
National Citizenship Day, September 17. Pardon the promotion,
but this event is my "baby" and I hope you'll come out and
enjoy it!
From
noon until 5 pm downtown, we'll have music and entertainment; a
Community Expo with local businesses, government agencies and service
organizations; a visit from our congressman; a WWII exhibit;
soldiers' parade; Smokey Bear, moonwalk, crafts and mini-carnival for
the kids.
...and
Nick's Picnic in the Park. If
all that Citi-fest fun isn't enough to entice you downtown for a
Sunday afternoon, how's this? Chef Nick will be hosting Nick's
Picnic in the Park in conjunction with
Citi-Fest. He'll
be serving up pork loin, lamb and potatoes...all delightfully roasted
over hot coals. Hamburgers will be available for the less adventurous
picnickers! The Grantville Senior Center will be offering baked
goodies for dessert and we'll have a snow-cone vender on site (it
looks like the summer heat will still be with us!). Bring your
own picnic blanket!
Free
admission to most Citi-Fest activities. Proceeds from the Picnic and
exhibit will benefit the Grantville History Project. Find out
more about Citi-Fest at www.citifest.grantville.net.
Great
Grantville Clean Up Continues
A little G-Net news from Kim...CLM
Sanitation has agreed to sign on as sponsor for the Great
Grantville Clean Up, our ongoing quest to get litter under
control in Grantville. CLM is also donating the use of extra cans and service for
Citi-Fest and Calico Christmas, and they are also providing additional
cans for use at Pick-Up events.
The
next Litter
Pick-Up Parties
are scheduled for Saturday, September 16 and Saturday, September 30.
Times can be arranged at your convenience. Believe it our not,
picking up trash can be fun if you got good company! Please
contact councilman Scott Palmer
to volunteer.
Calling
All Biker Babes
It's
not what you think! We need some young'ns downtown Saturday
morning, September 30
to welcome cyclists passing through town as part of the Bike
Ride Across Georgia
fall ride. In recent years, Grantville has let this
opportunity for fun pass us by, and the bikers rode through deserted
streets. In his capacity as councilman, Nick contacted BRAG
organizers to ask how Grantville can make the most of BRAG's trek
across our county this year. All they want from us is a
big small-town Welcome to our visitors. We're looking to round
up some folks to host a breakfast stand offering biscuits and other
light and easy-to-eat edibles. By the time BRAG folks reach
Grantville, they are HUNGRY! Any
organization that steps in to handle the breakfast sale can keep the
proceeds!
We're
also putting together a little bike rally to coincide with the visit
from BRAG bikers. Our local bike expert, Johnny Cooks, will be on hand
to help kids clean-up and repair their bikes after a summer of rough
riding. We'll have a simple obstacle course and some old-time
decorating fun (remember clothespins and playing cards on spokes, and
long colorful streamers on the handlebars?)
And the Fun
Stuff Continues! Save the dates for these events.
Halloween
HullabaBOO!
Downtown
Halloween fun is back this year with Trunk-or-Treat, hayride, costume
contests, and a "pumpkin egg contest" for toddlers on
October 31. Look for details at Citi-Fest on September 17, and
afterwards at www.grantville.net.
(And don't forget - Barbara Nolan is back for her annual Halloween
appearance on the Grantville auditorium stage on Saturday, October
28!)
Veterans
Day Observance
On Saturday,
November 11, Nick's will host a Veterans Day reception with
military-related historic exhibits and a presentation by Todd Key,
Grantville resident and entertainer. Todd will share bittersweet tales
of his experiences performing for US soldiers in the mid-east and
elsewhere. Details will be available in early October.
Counting
Blessings Candlelight Walk
On Wednesday
evening, November 22, Grantville residents are invited to participate
in a thoughtful act of community to give thanks for our individual and
collective blessings.
Calico
Christmas
Once Upon a
Time...A Storybook Christmas. December
9 and 10 in downtown Grantville!
And
look for "Knight" on stage in the week that follows. Details
coming soon.!
Raise
a Ruckus, Sing out Praise, Give Suggestions...There are lots of ways!
As
we move into election season and approach another new year, it's more
important than ever that residents take an active interest in what's
happening on their block, in their city, and throughout the county.
Please devote some time to thoughtful discussion with your neighbors,
particularly discussion about what we as individual residents can do
to confront some of the challenges facing us. The Grantville.Net
community website offers a venue for sharing ideas and
opinions. Please consider taking a few moments to post your
thoughts in the online forums or the
Wiki discussion boards.
We
encourage Nick's News readers to get this week's copy of The
West Georgia Beacon and respond to the editor's invitation for
commentary regarding the state of Grantville's historic
district. For the full text of Nick's comments (which he made in
his capacity as city councilman,) and review subsequent responses, see
the "Condition of Downtown" G-net forum topic.
Coweta
Living...it's a wonderful thing!
This part of the
state offers lots of great stuff for newcomers and lifetime residents
to enjoy. Nick's has distributed the excellent Newnan-Coweta
Magazine since its
inception, and we are proud to be among the independent pizzerias
featured in this month's issue. (No, we didn't pay for the
privilege...we just sold Angela, Cameron and Janet terrific
Nick's pizza and let nature take its course!) We are doubly proud to
be one of six locations selected for placement of the new distribution
boxes for Coweta
Living, the new
guide to Coweta county produced by the same team that puts together
the magazine. I was honored to be among the contributing writers
for this guide and hope you will agree it is chock-full of interesting
information about what makes Coweta county a great place to call home!
Now,
how about some fresh hot pizza, pasta or sandwiches for dinner
tonight?
Can't
wait to hear from you!
