September 1,  2005

Greetings from Nick's Pizza Stop

…..and welcome to the September 2005 edition of Nick’s E-News

Reminder: Nick’s will be CLOSED on Saturday, September 3 (Labor Day weekend)

By now you should have received our most recent print edition of Nick’s News, if you missed it, simply click on the “August” link at the top of our Nick’s News page. The mailer also included a new “quick menu,” but the full menu with pricing is always available on our website.

What’s new at Nick’s
We are still looking for a new Nick’s team member to help provide you with exceptional pizza and the very best in customer service. In the meantime, we’ll do our best to let you know if service times are running a little long, and to provide accurate estimates for delivery time.  Friday night volume is particularly high, and we appreciate your patience as we continue our staffing search.

In other “staffing news” we are pleased to announce that Chef Nick himself is now handling Friday lunch service. Nick has put the daily commute to Atlanta behind him, although he will still be associated with his long-time employer as a contractor. I have signed on for full-time employment with CTR Group (a national recruiting firm) as their regional trainer, based here in Grantville.  We do not anticipate any other immediate changes to the restaurant operation, as Nick will be devoting his additional “pizza” time to exciting endeavors like finding a new ice machine and filing sales tax paperwork!

What’s New on Main Street

Our recent mailer included information from two of Grantville’s newest businesses, Images Photography Studio & Art Gallery, and Ramponi Design Studios.  Additional copies of their flyers are available at Nick’s (or access the August E-news from our Nick’s News page to download a copy.)

Other recent additions to the downtown scene are Grantville Sweet Tooth, serving scooped ice-cream and frozen treats until 8 pm daily (located in the old Mason’s lodge); and Dr. Felecian Jones – her general practice is open Tuesdays and Fridays on Church street (770-583-3382.)

Grantville News

The Historic Preservation Commission needs helping hands!  Please sign up to participate in the Restore-a-thon on Saturday, September 10. Stacks of vintage auditorium chairs await the opportunity to host visitors, they only need a little TLC!  Where else can you be directly involved in restoring an historic community center to glory? It’s a great opportunity to enjoy a little fall weather and get to know some of your neighbors.  For those not inclined towards manual labor, “per chair” financial pledges and donations for supplies and refreshments are also being accepted.  Due to safety concerns, all Restore-a-thon participants must be age 12 or older. For more information call Kim at 770-583-2419 or see www.grantville.net and select “Organizations” then “Historic Preservation Commission.”

If you operate a small business in Grantville, or live in Grantville and have a service or product to market directly to Grantville residents (i.e. insurance, Tupperware, etc.), make plans to participate in the Merchants Exchange, part of the Grantville Citi-Fest, on Saturday, October 8 in the Grantville freight depot.  The “citizen’s festival” is an event intended to promote civic involvement and help residents discover what kinds of opportunities are available to them right here in Grantville. The Citi-Fest will also include a voters registration rally, demonstration of Georgia’s electronic polling machines, a local artists market, and other family-friendly activities.  Representatives from local youth organizations, churches and civic clubs are also invited to participate. For more information write to kim@grantville.net.

Local business owners are also invited to join an informal association of entrepreneurs interested in taking direct action to promote the success of independent businesses in Grantville. The Grantville Merchants Association will meet on Sunday, September 18 at the home of Rochelle Jabaley. For more information contact Rochelle or write to kim@grantville.net.

If you live within the Grantville city limits – or in any of the rapidly growing small towns in west
Georgia, you’ll want to attend a community presentation, Growing a Viable Community, on Monday, September 19. This is your chance to hear an expert explanation of the systems that make up a city’s infrastructure, and consider the specific challenges Grantville is facing with regard to the influx of new residential developments and anticipated commercial development.  The presentation will begin at 7:00 at a location to be announced. Grantville city council candidates will be invited to participate in a Q&A following the presentation.

For other news about what’s happening in Grantville this fall, see the calendar at www.grantville.net.

Around Town this Month
This area’s biggest fall weekend is around the corner – the Powers Crossroads Festival, Moss Oak Plantation Festival and Newnan’s Festival Days all take place on Labor Day weekend.  The holiday weekend kick’s off a month of family fun in west Georgia…check out the Coweta Convention & Visitors Bureau website for dates and details for Sharpsburg’s Olde Town Festival and the Coweta County Fair.

Local artist Scott Palmer’s exhibit of  scratchboard and portraits remains on display at the Centre for Visual and Performing Arts of Coweta through September 15.  The centre’s director is so intrigued by Scott’s pioneering work in poly-murals (the first of which are on the walls at Nick’s,) plans for a new exhibit are already underway! Also look for a profile on Scott in the September/October issue of Newnan-Coweta magazine. If you missed the last issue and its feature on Grantville, drop by Nick’s for a free copy.

As always, we want to thank you for your patronage and support. We appreciate your business.

buona fortuna su voi
