Greetings from
Nick's Pizza Stop!
…..and welcome
to the October 2005 edition of Nick’s E-News
Mike's back! (Yea! Hooray! Yippee!)
Things just weren't the same at Nick's while Mike Brown was away. We
appreciate the patience and support of regular delivery customers during his
illness. He appears to have rounded the corner on the road to recovery and
is back to work delivering fresh, hot Nick's pizza throughout Grantville
five nights a week.
A Big Thank-You to September Diners
As small business owners, we have made a concerted effort to give back to
our community through service work, door-prize donations and partnerships
with Grantville School and local Girl Scouts. Last month we decided to
take our philosophy to the next level by pledging a portion of our September
profits to hurricane relief. After taking care of costs, Nick's was able to
contribute over $750 dollars to the Red Cross disaster relief fund.
Many thanks to September diners for your part in helping make this possible.
What’s new at
Nick’s
Local resident
Reggie Lowe has joined the Nick's Team! Reggie will be assisting in the
kitchen on weekends and you may also occasionally see Reggie in the kitchen
and on deliveries during the week. We are also getting a helping hand
from fellow Main Street business owner,
Beth Ramponi
(Ramponi Design Studios.) Beth has graciously offered her
services helping me tend to the dining room and service counter on Fridays
and other nights as needed. We are still looking for a Friday night driver,
but having Reggie and Beth on our team will help ensure we can deliver
Nick's quality service even in the midst of the Friday night pizza rush.
Lifestyles Magazine
("Life in the Southern Arc") joins the Newnan-Coweta
Magazine on the 'rack' at Nick's. Newnan-Coweta magazine is a
terrific publication that showcases the best of what our community offers
(back issues featuring Grantville are still available at Nick's.) Lifestyles
is a bit broader in scope but both of these quality magazines feature
fantastic photography and make for great reading while we prepare your
dinner...or you can take them home with you for free! Copies of the West
Georgia Beacon and Newnan Times-Herald are also available for your perusal
in the dining room. We've also recently added to our collection of
children's books and local history materials.
New on Nick’s Menu
Devoted customer Michael Morrow dropped by after our last
mailer, wanting to know how he could get a pizza named after himself.
He made up a pizza on the spot....what could we do but give it a chance? Michael Morrow's Bacon-Chick pizza has received excellent reviews thus far, so it will
remain our featured pizza for another month! The Bacon-Chick is a white
pizza (no pizza sauce) with feta cheese, garlic, chicken and shaved bacon.
The 12" MBC is $12.25 through the end of October.
We continue to try to raise the bar in
terms of quality at Nick's. Our most recent decision in that regard is a
switch from beef "topping" to 100% ground beef.
Those of you who enjoy Meatlovers and other pizzas with both beef and
sausage will notice that the two are now much easier to distinguish and (we
hope) all beef eaters will notice the heartier flavor of the new product.
As we begin to feel a chill in the air,
we've decided to bring a bit of the islands to Nick's. Beginning in
mid-October and for a limited time only, Nick's will be offering
Caribbean Spice chicken wings and sticky
fingers. This specialty sauce has a blend of sweet, spicy and citrus
flavors. You can also request a Caribbean Chicken-Cheese sandwich - a
baked sandwich with grilled chicken, pineapple, cheese and Carribean Spice
sauce.
What’s New on Main Street
Lots of folks are eagerly awaiting the
arrival of "Ground Up" coffee shop next door to
Nick's. Owner Jaime Nash has been busy transforming that sparse, cold
storefront into a warm and cozy sippin' spot. The date for his grand
opening has not yet been set, but when his final plans are in place we'll be
sure to pass the word!
IMAGES gallery
owner Deborah Smith is recovering from surgery and will be back at her Main
Street shop in the near future. Welcome Back, Deborah! And "Congratulations"
to Southeastern Interiors' Zack Carey and his
new bride, Enhancement Salon owner Angela
(Holder), who recently returned from their honeymoon.
We've recently teamed up with other local
business owners to form the Grantville Coalition of
Independent Businesses. GCIB members are already tackling our
first major project, the Main Street cleanup.
Nick and Beth Ramponi (Ramponi Design Studio) have almost finished
pressure-washing the sidewalk along the west side of Main Street (thanks to
Raptis Builders and Re-Use the Past for use of their pressure washers,) and
Maryleigh Preston-McClure (CTR Recruiting) is working to brighten up the
planting areas (following the lead of Joanne Cantrell of Our Lady's Rosary
Angel.) Customer Shawn Banach of Quality Window & Pressure Cleaning
generously offered his services in trade for a bit of pizza, so our Main
Street storefront windows have a new sparkle. Across the street,
Rochelle Jabaley, owner of 'the white building' on Main Street has also
spent several hours tending to her building and the city property
immediately adjacent to it. If you operate a home-based or independent
business in the Grantville area, we invite you to join the GBIC! Call Beth
at Ramponi Design for October meeting details. (770-583-9118)
Grantville
News
Fall elections are around
the corner and those signs you see around town are only the beginning. City
council candidates have all been invited to upcoming events in town, and
word is that the Newnan Times-Herald will be publishing profiles of each
candidate soon. Your voter's registration must reflect your city of
Grantville address in order for you to vote in these elections (deadline to
register or change your address is October 11.) All city council posts are
"at large" so every Grantville voter will select four council members - one
from the pair of candidates running for each specific post. For more
information see www.grantville.net
and select the "government" link. On-site registration will be conducted in
downtown Grantville on Saturday, October 8.
By now, you've surely heard that Chief
Ramos has left town. Former lieutenant David Prescott has been named interim
Police Chief for Grantville, and has indicated to the council that he is
interested in the full time position. Prescott has experience serving as a
Police Chief and he has several years under his belt right here in
Grantville. We hope you'll support his appointment to the permanent
position, and let the Mayor and current city council members know your
sentiments.
If you see the Nick's Pizza Stop sign or
other storefront signs coming down on Main Street in the coming weeks, don't
be alarmed. Scenes for a cable TV movie will be filmed in Grantville
sometime this month. It is likely that Nick's and other downtown business
will be closed for a day or two during filming. Final details are sure
to be announced in local papers when they are available and will also be
posted on the community calendar at
www.grantville.net.
Grantville HPC News
Grantville Historic Preservation Commission is
looking for additional volunteers to help refurbish and install the vintage
chairs we've obtained for the auditorium. Nick, Scott Palmer, Beth Ramponi and
Jim Jones got that project off to a great start but we need more hands!
Please contact Kim if you can help.
The HPC is also pinning down details for this year's
Holiday Tour of Historic Grantville. The tour on Sunday,
December 11 will feature historic homes and buildings throughout the city.
If you can put your home or business on the tour, or if you can volunteer to
assist with the Artists Market being coordinated by Deborah Smith for the
tour, please contact Kim. We also need
volunteer ticket sellers and tour guides.
Grantville Events this Month
Oct 8:
Come celebrate your city at the first-ever
Grantville Citi-Fest.
This "mini-festival" is a chance for you to find out about businesses
serving the Grantville area, shop for crafts produced by Grantville
residents, and meet city council candidates. We will also be conducting
on-site voters registration; you can be sure your registration or
address change is updated before the deadline (October 11.) Grantville PD
will be providing child fingerprinting for parents, and Lynne Miller of
Chatt-Flint Regional Development Center will be on hand to share information
about services provided by RDC. We'll have free consumer publications,
a Citizen Sounding Board, and children's civic activities. Grantville First
Baptist will be selling burgers and hot dogs to raise funds for a youth
trip, and Nick and Scott Palmer will be selling funnel cakes for the
Grantville auditorium restoration fund. Items for Main Street Newnan's
Support Our Soldiers project will be accepted.
Citi-Fest is 11:00 - 2:00
in the freight depot on Saturday, October 8.
Oct 19: On Thursday, October
19, local resident Jeff Mansour is organizing the second presentation
in the "Growing a Viable Community" series.
This speaker series is an excellent opportunity for Grantville area
residents to learn about issues facing our community and meet other
concerned citizens. The presentation begins at 7:00 in the Grantville School
cafeteria. Please note that Nick's will close
at 7:00 p.m. in order to ensure our staff members can attend this important
presentation. (Last order at 6:30)
Oct 22: The Grantville Playmakers, under the
direction of David Wilson, will present the fifth annual Barbara Nolan
Halloween play at the Grantville Auditorium this month. This event is a
fundraiser for the Grantville auditorium restoration project, and it's a
terrific opportunity for you to see the fantastic work local resident Scott
Palmer has done on the interior. Barbara Nolan and the
Return of the Mummy is at 7:00 on Saturday,
October 22.
Oct 22:
If your taste for entertainment runs in a different direction, check out the
Southern Country Gospel Music at the freight
depot, also on Saturday, October 22.
Oct 31: On Monday, October 31,
Ramponi Design Studios will present Main Street Trick
or Treat & Family Fun Fest. Local merchants and volunteers will
welcome costumed trick-or-treaters beginning at 5:00, followed by games &
goodies at the freight depot. Beth Ramponi welcomes inquiries from
adults and older teens willing to wear costumes and volunteer for this
event. 770-583-9118.
