Greetings from
Nick's Pizza Stop!
…..and welcome
to the October 2006 edition of Nick’s E-News
Ah,
what a difference a few weeks can make! Days after we
sent our September E-news, full
of chatter about all our plans for this fall, we received notice that our lease is being
terminated and we must vacate the premises by November 7. To
that end...
Nick's Pizza Stop
on Main Street
will host a "Closing Party"
beginning at 5 pm on
Halloween Night,
Tuesday, October 31, 2006.
The
Closing Party will continue until 10 pm or until our food supplies run
out, whichever comes first; No children under 16 after 8 pm,
please.
Our last delivery order will be taken at 8:00.
A
new "Nick's Pizza" will open by
year's end in another Grantville location.
Events News
The
unexpected turn of events at Nick's has made it necessary for us to
make changes and even cancel some of the activities we had scheduled
for this fall and winter:
Sale
of the Century
- scheduled for Hummingbird Festival Weekend, Saturday,
October 21.
This is not actually a Nick's Pizza event, but our mega-yard sale is all the
more important now that we are closing the shop for a while and may
need storage space at the house! Furniture, books, knick-knacks, and
assorted other stuff will be sold. Sale begins at 8 am and will
end by 4 so we can get to the shop on time. Email
Kim for directions and details.
We
leased
Convincing
The Nation, a
traveling
exhibit of authentic WWII posters, for a three-month display
at Nick's. The exhibit officially opened at Citi-Fest and we intended
for it to serve as a backdrop for a special Veterans
Day Reception
with Todd Key, who recently completed his fourth tour entertaining
troops overseas. Todd's presentation has been tentatively rescheduled
for Armed Forces Day in the spring. The last night for
viewing the exhibit is Saturday,
October 21.
Viewing is free, but donations are accepted to cover lease and
shipping expenses.
Great
Grantville Clean Up - October Pick-Up Party,
scheduled for Saturday, October 28, is cancelled. Other
Nick's-sponsored Weekend Pick-Up parties for 2006 are cancelled, but
Kim and Scott will continue to organize weekday pick-ups throughout
November and December.
Halloween
HullabaBoo and Downtown Trunk or Treat is cancelled.
However,
Nick's will offer Trick or Treat goodies until 7 pm Halloween Night.
Counting
Our Blessings Candlelight Walk on
Thanksgiving Evening has been cancelled.
Calico
Christmas
will take place as scheduled, second week in December. We are
hopeful that our new restaurant location will be ready in time to host
the Calico
Banquet.
If not, the banquet will be held at the Raptis Pavilion in
Luthersville.
End
of Two Eras
One event unaffected by our closing is the annual Grantville
Playmakers
Halloween
production. Barbara
Nolan Meets the Ghost
will be performed at the Grantville Auditorium on Saturday,
October 21 at
7 pm.
Director
David Wilson has indicated this will be the last installment of the
Barbara Nolan series, so he, too, is closing a chapter of Grantville
history that weekend. (As with Nick's, a new chapter is already in the
works with a very different Playmakers production coming in
December!)
Don't
miss this chance for a double-whammy end-of-an-era opportunity! Attend
the Playmaker's performance on Saturday, October 21 and then come to
Nick's for a late-night dinner.
Citi-Fest
Follow Up
Leo at the West
Georgia Beacon was kind enough to print most of my very long letter
about all the wonderful volunteers who stepped up to help with
Citi-Fest. I want to be sure to spread the word far and wide so here's
a seriously abbreviated version...
...I cannot possibly show adequate thanks to those
friends and neighbors who pitched in.
I can, however, at least try to make sure everyone knows who
they are: Brenda
Raptis, Bud Ramsey, Leigh Ann Olsen and her kids Drew and Chelsea (and
Chelsea's friend Hannah); Amanda Foiles, Eric Kornegay, Pete Stasio,
Carma McCallie, Tony Nalls, Mike Brown, Deanne Kwon, Debi Rogers,
Natalie West, Shanna Walston, Twila from Rockport Homes/Meadowbrook,
Casey Parks and Casey Houston. Special
thanks to David West, Scott Palmer, and Nick Sasso.
...
folks who made the day extra special for a lot of kids...Newnan JV
Cheerleaders, Smokey Bear (thank you, Jeff Mansour for bringing him);
McGruff (thank you Chief Allen); Firefighter Cadenhead; George
Washington (David Wilson,); Officer Friendly and the unknown heroes
responsible for the Newnan Cougar and Grantville Gator.
This part
didn't make the paper,
but I think it is also important to recognize a few vendors who
provided such exceptional service that they also deserve special
recognition and thanks for making Citi-Fest a success:
Jason Becker and Don Rex at CLM Sanitation
Stari Harrison and Ben Thompson of Ben Thompson PortaJohns
Capers and Shakedra Shanks of Bargain Bouncin' (moonwalks)
Wendy Denton, Georgia Southern University Museum
Andy Emmit, AE Logistics Co. Inc.
And many, many thanks to all of you who came out for this event! Hope
you had a good time and come back again next year!
No
Hard Feelings...
Our landlord
recently mocked one of our employees, saying, "hey, no hard feelings about losing your job..." or
something to that effect. He may be disappointed to discover
that none of our employees will lose their job as a result
of his decision to terminate our lease.
In fact,
all our team members have confirmed they wish to remain at
Nick's through this transition, even though we were only able to
promise full wages through the end of November. Unfortunately our cash
reserves will not support payroll beyond that point until we have
reopened.
Since
I know our employees are 100% committed to delivering exceptional food
and service to all of you, and am confident they are successful in
their quest at least 99% of the time, I won't be shy about suggesting
that you show your appreciation in so far as your pocketbook will
allow during our last few weeks. As always, any tips I receive in the
dining room, and tips Nick receives making deliveries, are shared
amongst the kitchen staff and we welcome direct contributions to the
'kitchen tips' jar at the front counter.
Dining
during the "dry season"
We
selfishly hope you will miss Nick's while we are closed, but are
nonetheless mindful that this is the perfect opportunity to support other
independent restaurateurs in our community. We especially encourage
you to visit our friends: Luis at Casa Maria
Grill on Highway 29 in
Grantville, Paul and Bonnie at County Line Cafe in Luthersville, and
Randy and Toni at Rogers Barbecue in
Hogansville. They will take good care of you!
Grantville
Elections - A personal message from Kim
I
encourage Grantville residents to to elect current councilwoman Casey Houston as the next Mayor
of Grantville, chose Debi Rogers as her successor to Council Post 2,
and re-elect Scott Palmer to Post 1. If you care to know why, see my
post on the Grantville.Net community forum (and add your own
comments on the topic!)
Another
New Direction for Nicks....
Nick's
Pizza Stop News
has traditionally offered a blend of pizzeria news and community news,
and even occasional personal news. We have received enthusiastic response to this approach, but it is
increasingly difficult to incorporate everything into one monthly newsletter.
In
January, Nick's News
will take on a new look, and will focus almost entirely on menu
updates, specials and other pizzeria-specific information.
A new
community newsletter will be launched by Grantville.Net
(Kim's community website) that same month, featuring news
relating to Grantville and neighboring towns. Area residents
will be encouraged to submit personal notes such as engagement announcements,
yard sale notices, and news of promotions and other personal
accomplishments. We also welcome submission of general content
and topic ideas. Send to kim@grantville.net.
In
November and December, you may receive short bulletins from us, but
this is the last full issue of Nick's
News as
you know it.
Current
Nick's News subscribers will receive both 'debut issues' in January,
and each will have a subscribe/unsubscribe response button. A sign-up
for new subscriptions will appear on the Nick's and G-Net websites
soon.
Here's
to another great ride - and yet more opportunities to get to know our
neighbors and customers - when Nick's Phase II arrives!
buona
fortuna su voi
