November

2005
Greetings from
Nick's Pizza Stop!
…..and welcome
to the November 2005 edition of Nick’s E-News
What’s new (again) at
Nick’s
Seems like the leaves have barely turned and winter's blowing in already!
And just in time...back by popular demand is last winter's
Candlelight Coffee.
Beginning mid-November, Tuesday through Thursday after 8:00 we invite
you to enjoy some baklava, cheesecake, or Nick's famous Cinnamon Stix
with a free cup of coffee (or cocoa.) Who knows, we might even be
serving the "off the menu" fritters some of our lucky late-night
regulars have come to enjoy. Relax to the sounds of Andrea Bocelli,
Josh Groban or other smooth voices with an Italian flavor and challenge
your companion to a game of chess. In addition to our local
publications in the reading area, we also have travel books for your
enjoyment - just close your eyes and dream of the Tuscan sun (never
mind that it might be a bit cold in Tuscany these days, too....just let
your imagination take over!)
We are bringing back the puzzles! Many of you enjoyed working the jigsaw puzzles we had
in our dining room last year. The puzzles disappeared because dine-in volume
made it necessary to put all our tables into regular service, but one
table has since developed a bad case of 'shaky leg.' We'd rather risk
having a puzzle hit the floor than a pizza, so the shaky table has been
removed from regular service and the puzzles will be back next week.
New tables will begin appearing in the dining room after the first of the
year.
New on Nick’s Menu
You have the crew from "Angel From Montgomery" to thank for our newest menu
item,
Stromboli. We prepared these tasty Italian treats for 120 production crew members after closing on Friday the
21st. (Did you know that those movie people schedule "dinner" for 1:30 a.m?)
The Stromboli were such a hit, we're adding them to our menu now instead of waiting
until after the New Year as we'd planned.
Stromboli
is
essentially the original "Hot Pocket" - but ours are bigger
and much yummier than the ones in your local freezer section!
We'll offer a few
"signature" Stromboli on our next printed menu, but you can choose any three
regular pizza toppings as fillings. These are easily big enough to share, especially when
paired with a salad or Nick's Stix. We put a small portion of pizza
sauce inside the Stromboli and also serve some on the side for dipping.
Stromboli will be available for Friday lunch as well as every week night.
Caribbean Spice
will remain our Chef's Specialty Chicken Finger/Wing Sauce for at least
another month. This sauce has a blend of sweet, spicy and citrus
flavors and makes for especially delightful "sticky fingers." We
also remind you that we continue to offer Garlic-Pepper wings...perhaps
the best-kept secret on our current menu!
What’s New on Main Street
Mr. C's Mini-Mart
(on the corner of Main and LaGrange) now offers a snack bar of sorts,
serving hot foods to go! Never
mind the long-rumored arrival of Waffle House, you can get eggs and
bacon or biscuits & gravy right here on Main Street! And who needs
McDonalds when you've got Lisa or Jody making you a fresh burger in
front of your very eyes? I know it will delight many of you to know
that french fries are also on the menu. Keep in mind that this is
all served To-Go (Mr. C's is licensed differently from sit-down
restaurants,) but isn't is GREAT to know that you've now got two
terrific options for hot yummy food made to order by independent
businesses? Breakfast is served 7-11 am and other items are
served until 7 pm. (Closed on Sunday.) Please support Lisa (in addition
to continuing to support Nick's, of course!) Home-grown businesses are
essential to helping Grantville retain its charm as we grow.
Grantville
News
ELECTION DAY IS
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 8. If you are a registered voter in
Grantville, please take the time to vote. The entire City Council is
being selected - this election will truly determine the course of
Grantville's future. It's no secret that Nick's will be endorsing
Nick Sasso for Post 3 (challenging Doug Jewell)
and Scott Palmer for Post 1 (challenging Jerome
Mills.) You will also be selecting council members for Posts 2 and 4 -
all posts are At-Large so each voter elects candidates for every post. See
the "government" section at
www.grantville.net for the names of all candidates, and for links to the
websites of the four candidates who accepted the offer of web space at that site. Copies of newsletter
reports pertaining to the election are available for your review at Nick's.

December Holiday Happenings - Planning
Ahead!
Calico Christmas - December 10/11
Mark your calendar for
Calico Christmas on December 10 and 11, a
weekend chock-full of wonderful holiday experiences for all ages - including
a Artists Expo, Tour of Homes and a visit from Santa Claus. (And he's not
just coming from the North Pole, he's visiting from the
turn-of-the-twentieth century!) Chef Nick will present a special
Calico Christmas banquet on Saturday, December 10 (seating by
pre-reservation, details to be announced.) Proceeds from Calico Christmas
will go towards various historic preservation activities in Grantville.
Grantville residents have an opportunity to
contribute to the success of Calico Christmas
and be actively involved in creating a fun-filled weekend for neighbors and
visitors to our city. In addition to Sunday's Holiday Tour of Homes
(presented by the Historic Preservation Commission,) the weekend's
activities will include riding tours throughout the historic district and
into the subdivisions. We encourage you to "go all out" on exterior holiday
decorations to make for a fun visual experience day or night.
Residents are invited to
organize decorating contests and/or themed lawn decor in their subdivision
or on their block.
We are also looking for folks interested in coordinating Christmas Caroling
at various locations throughout the weekend, and holiday bakers to provide
treats for fundraiser food sales. Local choirs and dance groups are
encouraged to inquire about scheduling a public performance during the
weekend.
Contact
Kim for more information about how
you can be involved in Calico Christmas. Details
will also be posted at
www.grantville.net soon. Watch for news articles and promotional
flyers around town in the coming weeks.
Nick's Christmas
Closing
Nick's will be closed December 10 through 18th, and also closed Saturday,
Christmas Eve. We will be OPEN the week between Christmas and New Years.
New Years Eve hours will be announced later this month.
Keeping
your Dollars in Town
Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, if you
purchase products or services from independently owned consumer businesses
located in Grantville, bring your receipts to Nick's. For every pre-tax
dollar shown on collected receipts, Nick's will donate a penny to the
GCIB
Gateway Project - an effort by local businesses
to install a pleasing, high-quality "welcome" sign at the corner of Griffin
Street and Highway 29, the most well-traveled route into the heart of
Grantville. The businesses must hold a 2005 Business License. A
list of local business can be viewed at
www.grantville.net. Subscriptions to the West Georgia Beacon
purchased during the holiday season will also apply (bring in a mailing
label showing your expiration date, or ask Leo for a receipt.) Gasoline
purchases are excluded.
As always, we appreciate your business!
buona fortuna su voi
