Greetings from
Nick's Pizza Stop!
…..and welcome
to the May 2006 edition of Nick’s E-News
New at Nick's
Friday lunch special for spring - a 6" hot sandwich with
chips and a drink for $6.00 including tax. Nick's serves lunch on
Fridays from 11:30 - 1:15. Companies wishing to place large orders are
welcome to call us early in the week to ensure pickup by noon! Pizzas,
salads, and hot sandwiches available for lunch.
Chef Nick is now offering an even better Cheese Lasagna (with
marinara or meat sauce) and has introduced a Meat Lasagna for
your dining pleasure. Both items are made in-house and availability
will vary. Remember, we have a full selection of pasta entrees
available on Tuesday for Pasta Night and we do not serve pasta on
weekends! (Except sometimes for lunch on Friday - please ask!)
Many thanks to loyal customers Rodney & Ada Mowery and
Melanie Stamps for presenting us with the unbelievably cute flower
barrels outside our shop!
New Nick's items are available in our
Nick's Pizza Stop online store! Official Nick's T-shirts are also
available at our service counter.
Check out the new Nick's advertisement on page 91 of the May/June
issue of Newnan-Coweta magazine, released today. The cool photo
you see there was provided by Deborah Smith of Images
Photography in Grantville. The excellent Newnan-Coweta magazine is
available (free) at Nick's Pizza Stop.
Celebrate Grantville!
The Grantville Days celebration is just around the corner -
Saturday and Sunday, June 10 and 11. Angela Carey of
Enhancement Salon is once again the chairperson for this annual event
and she surely has lots of fun in store for residents and visitors!
Nick's is taking a new approach to our support of Grantville Days this
year:
-
Visit the Nick's Booth at the festival
In year's past, we've opened Nick's for the day during festivities,
but doing so means that we miss out on all the outdoor fun (and the
yummy barbecue that usually makes an appearance!) This year we'll be
doing the "meet and greet" at a booth outside our shop on Saturday,
June 10. We may have some special treats for you to sample -
stay tuned!
-
Nick's Grantville Days Creativity Contest For ages
5-16
Registration begins today for this coloring/craft contest. See details
here.
-
Grantville Days Heritage Banquet. Saturday, June 10, 7 p.m.
On Saturday evening we'll be closed for the Grantville Days
Heritage Banquet. As with the Calico Banquet and Feast of St.
Valentine, this will be a reservation-only event. Chef Nick has
prepared a menu using popular
American recipes from the 1800's in observance of our town's historic
origins.
A portion of the banquet proceeds support the Grantville History
Project (see below.)
For more information on Grantville Days, including how to become a
vendor, contact Angela at Enhancement Salon next door to Nick's
Pizza Stop.
There are lots of other
opportunities to get connected with your hometown
this year:
Nick's is a member of the Grantville Coalition of Independent
Businesses, and we invite licensed area business owners and
independent agents (insurance, real estate, etc.) to join GCIB members
for lunch at noon on Friday, May 19 at Nick's. GCIB lunch specials will
be available but no purchase is necessary.
Calico Corner resident David Jones has generously volunteered to help
move the Grantville Auditorium Restoration project along by working to
clean up the vintage chairs secured by Scott Palmer last year, and his
contribution is greatly appreciated! Additional volunteers are needed!
Let Kim know if you are interested and you will be contacted with more
information.
The Grantville Playmakers will present "America, the Great"
an original play by Grantville resident David Wilson, at the
Grantville Auditorium on July 4 at 6 p.m. Admission will be
adults $5 and children $3. All proceeds go towards the restoration of
the Grantville Auditorium. (Don't forget to check out the Moreland
barbecue and arts festival before hand!)
The Grantville History Project is an effort to collect,
preserve and exhibit documents and items relating to Grantville's
history. A selection of items collected thus far will be on display in
the Nick's dining room during the Heritage Banquet, including a pair
of watercolor pictures of early Grantville, recently given to
us by Tim and Joanne Terry. We also have several historic
photographs on loan from the collection of Patti and Darwin Palmer. We
greatly appreciate our customer's support of our efforts to explore
and share Grantville's history! If you would like to be part of the
Grantville History Project, contact Kim.
A community website has been established at
www.grantville.net. At this
site, you can participate in online forums, see an event calendar, and
review the current city charter. A new photo gallery has been added to
the site! (Submit your Grantville pictures for posting!)
GCIB is organizing the Grantville Gateway Project, with the
goal of erecting high-quality Welcome signage at the corner of Griffin
Street and Highway 29. Grantville.Net is supporting this effort with
the sale of G-Net T-shirts and other items at the
G-Net
Store online. All profits will go towards the Gateway
Project. Donations for the Gateway Project can also be made using the
railroad collection bank in the Nick's dining room. Look for more
information about the Gateway Project during Grantville Days.
The Grantville City Council is organizing a Citizen Committee for
City Beautification. The council is looking for volunteers in each
subdivision or neighborhood, to spearhead litter control and other
efforts to keep Grantville beautiful. For more information, please
contact councilman Scott
Palmer.
Local resident Phyllis Pettway is interested in forming a
playgroup for local preschoolers. Respond to her post in the
G-net forum.
The Grantville City Council now holds full business meetings
twice each month - second and forth Mondays at 6:30 p.m. All residents
are encouraged to attend!
Roy Smith continues his tradition of hosting free Gospel
Singings at the Grantville Freight Depot two weekends each month.
Contact Roy at 770-251-5621 for details.
Preparation for Citi-Fest is underway and organizers are
looking for local choral groups, singers and musicians interested in
presenting brief patriotic-themed performances during Citi-Fest on
Sunday, September 17. Citi-Fest is a "mini-festival" intended to
encourage civic involvement. Local businesses, churches, and social
organizations are invited to
register for
free exhibit space.
Word on the street is that we also have an October event to look
forward to downtown. Drop in at Uncle Hamilton's on Church
Street to find out more.
Calico Christmas plans are also on the drawing board. Bakers,
performers and volunteers are needed. (There are no vendors at this
event other than artists selected for the Merry Mart.) Please contact
kim@grantville.net or
deborah@grantville.net if you would like to be involved.
So, who says there's nothing going on in
Grantville?
Thank you for
your business. We appreciate your support!
buona fortuna su voi
