July 2005
Greetings from Nick’s Pizza
Stop!
…..and welcome to the July
2005 edition of Nick’s E-News
Our new kitchen floor meant
a few weeks away from you but it also provided an opportunity for us to
reconfigure our kitchen and service areas into more efficient workspace. We
are pleased with the changes but even more pleased to be back in
business….oh, how we missed you!
Because we had
to be away from you for so long while our kitchen was worked on, we will not
be closing for the week of July 4, as has been the tradition since before we
purchased the pizzeria. We will, however, be closing early on Saturday,
July 2 (last order accepted at
7:45) and we will be closed on Tuesday, July 5. Some of you know that Nick and I both have other employment
and did not in fact have a “vacation” when the restaurant was closed last
month - we hope you won’t mind us taking a little rest!
Beat
the Heat with Summer Treats
Most of the recent
changes at Nick’s are behind the scenes, but those of you who visit
regularly will notice that we’ve moved the service counter and installed a
Server Station. The server area includes a small freezer that is currently
under cover awaiting a fresh coat of paint, but it’s already stocked with
some of our newest menu items – frozen lemonade &
strawberry lemonade and Italian ice in watermelon and orange flavors.
These items are only available for dine-in and take out – we haven’t figured
out how to get a portable freezer into Mike’s little brown car!
Plastic
is Here to Stay
After a few month’s
trial period, we have decided to accept credit and debit cards (MC and Visa
only,) on a continuing basis. However, due to our high processing costs, a
fifty-cent surcharge will apply. (Surcharge is waived for orders over
$30.00) The cards are only accepted at the counter (drivers accept cash and
check only). On Friday nights, we prefer that you present checks, as the
phone line is generally so busy that it is difficult to complete credit card
transactions.
New
Menu Coming Soon
It’s already been
eleven months since we introduced our current menu, so its due for another
update. A new “quick reference” menu will be included in our July mailer to
Grantville residents and others on our mailing list, and the changes will go
into effect on August 2.
Our
A&WP, introduced as a “summer special” pizza
is fast becoming a new favorite among regular customers and we’ve
therefore decided to add it to our menu. Named in honor of the A&WP Railroad
that serviced Grantville for so many decades, the “artichoke and white
pizza” features artichoke hearts atop our famed Ramponi White pizza - feta
cheese, and a blend of fresh and roasted garlic on a creamy white sauce.
Introduced last spring,
the Meatlover McGee is also finding it’s way
to the top of the best seller list and will appear on the new menu. Tim
McGee’s favorite pizza has double portions of pepperoni, ground beef,
sausage and ham.
New items arriving with
the August 2nd menu include a chicken finger basket
appetizer, Signature Pizzas Micheal’s Better Half
(half pizza, half Nick’s Stix,) and Loco Pizza
(a flat crust pizza with bacon,) and the kid-friendly
Gator Stack mini-pizza “sandwich” and
pizzadillas (pizza-dee-ya.)
Create
Your Own Coupon!!!
Our collection of customer photographs has fallen
victim to an art project gone astray. We’d like to recreate it on an even
bigger scale, but Poloroid film costs a buck a picture, and we don’t get an
opportunity to snap shots of all you delivery regulars. So, here’s your
chance to be part of our “photo gallery” and save on your next order from
Nick’s!
Between now
and October 1, your “Nick’s Related” photographs can be presented to Nick’s
as a coupon worth 10% off any large pizza. “Nick’s related” means pictures
of the kid’s eating Nick’s pizza, you wearing your Nick’s shirt, etc..
In order for
the “coupon” to be valid, the people in the picture must be identified, the
Nick’s connection must be clearly recognizable, and the image must be
suitable for viewing by children. All photographs submitted will become the
property of Nick’s Pizza Stop. There is a limit of one picture per order
and a limit of two photographs per family or address. The discount will be
applied at time photo is presented (please mention your photo when placing
your telephone order.)

Volunteers Needed
Some of you may know that I (Kim) am chair of the Grantville Historic
Preservation Commission. Thanks mostly to the hard work of Scott Palmer,
restoration on the interior of the old auditorium has started moving along
again. (The auditorium was built in 1927 – it’s the building that sits up
behind and next to the city hall complex near the water tower.) The HPC
will be hosting an “Open House” at the auditorium on Hummingbird Festival
Weekend so residents can see the beautiful new interior.
You can get a sneak peek
by volunteering for upcoming Chair Parties!
We were fortunate to stumble across some vintage auditorium seats at an
amazing price. The only catch is that the seats need fairly extensive
cleaning up before they can be installed. As they say, “many hands make
light work,” so we are hoping to round up a few dozen folks to spend a
Saturday or Sunday getting to know their neighbors while also contributing
to a community project. If you are interested, please contact me at
hpc@grantville.net.
Activism
Alert: We try to refrain from letting our interest in community activism spill
over into Nick’s News too often, but here’s hoping that the Fourth
of July holiday has put you in a civic-minded mood. If you prefer not to “go
there,” you can skip the next few sections and this month’s Web Connections.
Grantville Citizens Newsletter
Coming Soon
We are talking with other citizens regarding several community issues,
political and otherwise, and are preparing a community-oriented newsletter
in that regard. Our first issue will be distributed to the Nick’s mailing
list, but thereafter a separate distribution list will be created. If you
have particular concerns you’d like to see addressed in the newsletter,
please send them to
kim@grantville.net. If you already know you prefer NOT to receive the
newsletter, please let us know by reply to this email or the first community
newsletter.
We
support our Chief!
At last report, the city council had yet to reach an agreement with Police
Chief Jerry Ramos regarding his requests for officer pay raises and a
contract defining his responsibilities.
With recent news that
Grantville is Georgia’s second fastest growing city, the need to build a truly professional
department is abundantly clear. Chief Ramos is sincerely committed to
ensuring the city puts it’s reputation as a “Barney Fife-dom” to rest, and
he’s made a lot of progress in that regard. He is surely not a perfect man
and no doubt will make some mistakes, but we strongly believe he is the
right man at the right time for Grantville. It is essential that he have
the ability to hire enough qualified officers and exercise authority in
accordance with prevailing law enforcement standards. You can show your
support for the Chief by placing a Blue ribbon on your porch, mailbox or
car.
