HAPPY ANNIVERSARY from Nick's Pizza Stop!

This month we celebrated our "first birthday" anniversary special available during our anniversary weekend to those on our mailing list.

We also awarded free Nick's Pizza Stop T-shirts to Tammy Zwilling and Jason Lassetter of Grantville. Tammy was our very first "actual customer" - that is, she happened to stop in the evening before our grand opening last year, when we were test-driving Nick's with our local friends.  Tammy continues to order her "triple pepperoni-triple green peppers" pizza on a regular basis and we appreciate that kind of support!  Jason's opening night order was the first one to break the $20 mark - and after a steady stream of orders this past year, he placed another one on our anniversary night.

IN OTHER NEWS....

March is National History Month and there are lots of fun ways to celebrate it...

Crafter's Palace scrapbooking studio on Griffin Street is sponsoring a History Page contest.  Megan, Patsy and Nancy will be happy to help you transform your "Grantville memories" into a lovely design for everyone to enjoy.  The contest will be capped off by a special event at the end of March,  co-sponsored by the “We’re Making History” local history club, and the finished scrapbook will be on display.

Your family’s history is certainly a part of the bigger picture of Grantville’s history. Whether or not your family has been in Grantville for generations or only months, if you would like to learn how to trace and document your family tree, plan to attend the February "First Friday Lunch" at Nick's Pizza Stop. The WMH local history club meets every month and February's meeting will be a family history workshop! Please RSVP to Kim at Nick's.

Interior renovations at the old auditorium will begin very soon!  Beginning in March, the Grantville Historic Preservation Commission will be organizing monthly "community work days" to provide an opportunity for local residents to be actively involved in various aspects of the renovation.  These Sunday afternoon gatherings will be a wonderful opportunity for community fellowship and fun.

Thinking about Grantville’s past can be fun, but many citizens are even more interested in Grantville’s future. MaryLeigh Preston McClure wrote a thoughtful letter to the editor in this week’s West Georgia Beacon, urging Grantville citizens to take an active role in shaping the course of development in Grantville.  A great way to begin is by active involvement in community politics, but many residents have mentioned that weekday hearings and meetings are often scheduled too early in the evening for them to take part. Beginning in February, several citizens will be organizing casual weekend gatherings to which the new city manager and our council members will be invited. Think of them as informal “town halls” where you can find out about what’s going on, express your views and concerns in a friendly and upbeat atmosphere...and prepare for local elections coming this fall. To be part of this “grassroots movement” and volunteer to host or organize a gathering, please write to kim@grantville.net (This is not a Nick’s Pizza Stop event.)

Another great opportunity  to become involved in your community is Grantville Day. Angela Holder of Enhancement Salon (next door to Nick's) is returning as event chair person for this annual June fun fest. Preparation is underway and the event team can no doubt use a few more hands to make this year's event better than ever!  Contact Angela to find out how you can be part of making this event a success.
