Greetings from Nick's Pizza Stop

…..and welcome to the December 2005 edition of Nick’s E-News

Sending this out a bit early so we can remind you that Nick's is Closed Wednesday, November 23 and Thanksgiving Day

What’s new at Nick’s

We may have a new town favorite! Pumpkin Cheesecake arrived just a week ago and is already receiving rave reviews.  It will be available throughout the holiday season, along with the ever-popular vanilla cheesecake.  Both are available “by the slice” or whole. You can also order whole pecan and pumpkin pies and whole flats of baklava.

In addition to our in-house treats, if you place an advance holiday party order for wings or pizza, you can also request baked goods from Heavenly Batch Bakery in Newnan. Please order at least ten days in advance for orders including bakery products or very large quantities of wings and pizza.

Grantville News

One last mention of the recent elections…..many thanks to all of you who made a point of voting (and, okay, especially those of you who supported Nick!)  The mayoral election will take place next year so if you have not registered to vote in the city of Grantville, please do so!

A Pledge from Nick’s

Some of you have already mentioned your observations regarding what appears to be a conflict between Nick’s and one of our business neighbors.  We regret to acknowledge that there is indeed some discord, and it may not be resolved in the immediate future. We extend apologies to anyone who may have been unwittingly drawn into this disagreement. We will do everything in our power to keep this matter off the streets and ensure the quality of Nick’s service and product is not affected.

Grantville Business News

Newest businesses in town are A&A Trailer, now open, and Grantville Auto Sales, scheduled to formally open in the near future.  Both are located on Highway 29.

If you’re looking for a great spot to open  your dream business,  check out what’s available downtown.  Several property owners are actively seeking business tenants. It may seem disheartening that so much of downtown is vacant, but if you’ve lived here a while, you know that even “for lease” signs are a move in the right direction.   For many years, downtown buildings fell deep into neglect, their owners apparently abandoning hope that the downtown district could bounce back.  There is still much work to be done, but Nick’s and the neighboring Enhancement Salon are evidence that new businesses can thrive with the support of the community.  Mr. C’s, Shay’s and the Rosary Angel store have been downtown for years, and Regeneia’s and Images have hit the ground running, joined by even newer shops at both ends of the downtown district.  I am sure the other business owners will echo our expressions of appreciation for your business.   We hope you will support independent businesses in Grantville and neighboring small towns whenever possible.

Big Local Event Next Month!

Deck the halls and bring on the holly!
Calico Christmas is Saturday and Sunday, December 10 and 11 in downtown Grantville. The event runs from 11:00 – 5:00 on both days, with activities in the depot and Bonnie Castle, hayrides through the historic district, and a special benefit dinner on Saturday and the Tour of Homes on Saturday. The weekend offers lots ways to celebrate the holidays and your hometown.  For more information on Calico Christmas, see www.calico.grantville.net.

Calico Christmas would not be possible without the assistance of our co-organizer, Deborah Smith of Images Art Gallery and Photography Studio on Main Street.  We are also indebted to other local business owners for providing financial support and sponsorships in the form of goods and services that would otherwise be paid for through event fees.  All proceeds will go towards historic preservation and downtown revitalization activities in Grantville.

Please indulge me in my gratitude by taking care to read this list of sponsors, and let them know you appreciate their support of community activities: Baggett Realty, County Line Café (Luthersville,) CTR Recruiting Group, Devonshire Farms, Grantville Auto Sales, Grantville Package Store, Grantville Sweet Tooth, Images Gallery, Nash Florist, Outdoor Works Lawn Service, R.C. Development, Raptis Homes, ReUse the Past, and West Georgia Beacon. Thanks also to Pike’s Nursery for furnishing Santa’s Christmas tree!

If you would like to be part of Calico Christmas, check out our sponsorship and volunteer needs and the “wish list” for supplies.  Or simply put on your holiday sweater and come down to join the fun!  www.calico.grantville.net

Grantville Gateway Project

The GCIB Gateway Project is an effort by local businesses to install a new "welcome" sign at the corner of Griffin Street and Highway 29, the most well-traveled route into the heart of Grantville.  Our initial goal is a short-term but pleasant replacement for the current aged sign, with the long term goal of significantly higher quality permanent Welcome signage.

Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, if you purchase products or services from independently owned consumer businesses located in Grantville, bring your receipts to Nick's. For every pre-tax dollar shown on collected receipts, Nick's will donate a penny to the Gateway. Receipts must be from businesses with a 2005 Business License and dated November 25 through December 24, 2005. We’ll accept receipts until mid-January.  A list of local business can be viewed at www.grantville.net.   We also accept direct donations to the Gateway project – see the “railroad crossing” bank at our store counter.

Give a little Nick’s this year!

Now available for holiday gift-giving - Nick's T-shirts in child and adult sizes with our cool logo designed by Scott Palmer.  Other Nick's products can be ordered from our Cafe Press store (see the "Nick's Merchandise" link on our main page.)  Gift certificates are available in any denomination.
