Only the Best for The Best!

Like most other businesses these days, Nick's Pizzeria is feeling the squeeze. We could certainly cut expenses by switching-off to cheaper products or cutting down on portion sizes. However, we know that the reason we so many of you continue to dine at Nick's - even when times are tough - is because you count on us to give you real value for your dollar.

We've learned over the years that we really do have the very best customers any business could hope for, and we want to enjoy the privilege of serving you and your families for a long time to come.

The economic downturn might have put a crimp in our expansion plans, but we promise you that above all else, our commitment to serving you top-quality food at a fair price won't change!

Our new "Frequent Pie-er" program is one effort on our part to offer a tangible representation of our appreciation for your loyal patronage. We'll also do our best to recommend ways to get the most value when choosing Nick's menu items to feed your family.

To make your dinner even more rewarding, considering having dinner at Nick's instead of just having dinner from Nick's. Deana Irvin (and often her daughter, Ami) are ready to serve you in our dining room after 6 pm five nights a week. In addition to our full menu, we offer occasional specials (this week it's Chicken Parmesan,) and a selection of beers and flavored malt beverages.

Our dining room offers board games, reading materials - and music that's loud enough to enjoy, but not so loud you can't have a conversation with your family and friends! We have a selection of toys for the younger set, and love to have young artists color pictures to hang in our work area!

We know that now more than ever, you make thoughtful choices about where to spend spend your dollars. We sincerely appreciate that you choose to spend them at Nick's Pizzeria!

buona fortuna su voi

A hearty meal for a cold winter night.

Nick's Dinner Special......This Week Only, While it Lasts!!
Chicken Parmesan
Dazzlingly delicious crispy crusted chicken breast atop Nick's superbly splendiferous spaghetti; topped with charmingly cheesey cheese and served with a crisp salad and garlic bread.

...wait, make that, a fantabulously fresh salad and beautifully buttery garlic bread.

All for only $10.99!
This super duper dinner is best enjoyed in our dining room with intriguing Italian beer and delightfully delicious dessert. (And, um, we'll hit you up for extra money to box it up and/or deliver.)

If two or more of you come in together and dine on Chicken Parmesan with beer, tea or soft drink, you'll each get a 'punch' on your Brand New Nick's Frequent Pie-er Card! (without even actually eating a pizza pie or spending the $20 usually required for a punch. See how cool it is to be a Frequent Pie-er?)

Welcome Back, Sisters! Holiday Gifts at Nick's

This winter we're offering "home grown" gift items for sale at Nick's:

Thanks in part to proceeds from the sale of the original Sisters' Family Cookbook, area resident Shirley Williamson didn't have to sacrifice an arm and a leg to get a new kidney! Shirley's doing very well and the seven sisters have been back in the kitchen to put together a follow up cookbook to celebrate. Second Helping is an even bigger book of recipes and there are no repeats from the first sisters' collection! Proceeds will once again go towards Shirley's medical expenses.

In addition to the sisters' cookbook, we offer local tax guru Dwayne Cook's inspirational CD, Walk a Mile in My Shoes and the hysterically funny DVD Operation Swashbuckle, chronicling the exploits of Grantville's own "danger theater" comic juggler, Todd Key as he and his friends Hack & Slash entertained our troops in the Mideast.

Local crafter/designer Beverly Thompson is also making her Tropical Tiki Designs available at Nick's this winter. There's more great stuff to come! Drop by our dining room to check out the gift selection as the holidays approach. (And consider bringing a can or two for the Coweta Food Pantry while you're at it!)

Are You A Frequent Pie-Er Yet?

Last week we began distribution of our new Frequent Pie-er Club Cards. Each time you present the card at the counter, you can get a FREE regular pizza topping added to any 16" pizza you purchase.

AND each time you make a purchase of $20 or more, we'll punch your card with our signature "Stopsign". After twenty punches, you redeem the card for a free 16" pizza and replacement card.

We'll also periodically offer specials exclusively to member of the Frequent Pie-er club, so don't wait to get your card!

* Card must be presented for free toppings and punches, but orders placed at our counter can still be delivered within our regular delivery area. Delivery fee is not included in $20 "punch price.".

Share the Love - Share the Nick's

Let Nick's help you become the most popular person in your office!

With a little advance notice we can provide boxed lunches (how does a Cheesesteak or Buffalo Chicken Sandwich sound?) for pick up (and possibly delivery, depending on when and where.) Perhaps a selection of pizzas or a tray of lasagna would better suit your needs?

We can also make our dining room available for meetings most weekdays, and have even been known to open on Sunday for private group dining.

If your business is among those cutting back on Holiday Office Parties, perhaps we can help ease the pain - chances are most folks would prefer a yummy, fun meal at Nick's to a cocktail party with finger sandwiches! If you go for an old-style party right there in the office, how 'bout a tray of Nick's hotwings? If you've been assigned dessert for the office potluck, consider a tray ofBaklava or bunches of brownie bites from Nick's. We can even bake fresh cookies for you!

And...hey! Did you know we have Gift Certificates!!?? We'll even design customized versions for your "Shining Star" performers or devoted Administrative Assistant.

One last suggestion....next time your coworker suggests McDonalds (again!) on a Friday, remember that Nick's is Open For Lunch on Fridays! You can call in group orders after 11:00 (or even email them to me the night before) and we can even provide individual totals (we have no problem accepting sixteen different little envelopes of dollars and coins!) We're open until 1:00 on Friday.

See ya soon, pizza lover!

WeekDay Delivery is Back

Thanks to Deana and Eric Irvin who have stepped up to volunteer, weekday delivery is once again available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Everyone's favorite mayor, Casey Houston, continues to volunteer on Thursdays, in service to hungry citizens.

And our ever-devoted weekend driver Taylor Peeler (aka "the hippie chick") is with us every Friday and Saturday!

They are all terribly underpaid if they are actually paid at all, so please do tip your driver! They work for love but that won't fill their gas tank.

Nick's Delivery 770-583-2240
Minimum order of $15 and $1.50 delivery fee. (Both figures subject to change)
Tuesday - Thursday (orders accepted 5:30 to 8:30)
Friday - Saturday (orders accepted 5:00 to 9:30)
Our service area is roughly 3.5 miles from downtown Grantville.
If in doubt, call or email me to find out if your street is in our delivery area.

Beer is Here!

At long last, you can enjoy beer with your pizza and wings at Nick's in Grantville!

As it turns out, the makers of our current selection offer websites with lots of entertaining things you can do to pass the time when you should be working:

(You must be 21 to enter most of the websites)

Blue Moon Brewing Company Pumpkin Ale "jack-o-lanterns reincarnated in a higher form" brewed only September through November. Available at Nick's while it lasts.

George Killian's Red "perfectly slow roasted caramelized malt"

Sweetwater 420 Extra Pale Ale "stimulating hop character and a crisp finish" and
Sweetwater Georgia Brown "slight nuttiness...smooth finish with a subtle hop character"

Mike's Hard Pomegranate Lemonade " delicious juicy beverage spiked with alcohol in an icy bottle"

Peroni Nastro Azzurro - one of Italy's leading brands, it's "Italian Style in a bottle"

Birra Moretti "the most desired beer in Italy....a smooth, well balanced pilsner"

Miller Genuine Draft "delivers a fresh from the tap taste" ...and the least entertaining website

And of course, this being western Georgia we'll also serve
Bud and Bud Light (don't tell me actually you need their website to know about Bud!)

You know the drill... You must be 21 to drink, and if I have the least doubt I'll ask for ID (consider it a comment on your youthful good looks.)

Nevermind the Great Pumpkin...

....how 'bout the Great Steak & Potato Pie?

Nick's famous Steak and Potato Pizza with creamy white sauce, real steak and freshly cooked potatoes will be available on Halloween weekend! After all that candy, just think how good a hot meaty pizza will be!

If potatoes don't appeal, how 'bout the Butcher Block with ten meat toppings? Perhaps the Mexican Hat Dance or Buffalo Chicken Pizzas will warm you up...and the King Kamehameha "extreme Hawaiian" pizza will send you off on a mental vacation to the Pacific seas!

This being the anniversary of our "closing party" when the old Nick's Pizza Stop era ended, we're using the occasion to launch a new era at Nick's Pizzeria. Wine and Beer service will begin in November, and we'll kick things off on Halloween by serving up Harvest Moon Pumpkin Ale by Blue Moon Brewing Company!

Nick's is open until 10 pm Friday and Saturday nights. We look forward to seeing you!

Meet the Manager on November 1

On Saturday November 1, join us for a "Meet the City Manager" reception/lunch at Nick's around noon, during the Corner Market Monthly Yard Sale at Grantville's Hidden Treasures. (We welcome more yard sellers!)

We'll be open for lunch from 11:30 until at least 1 pm.

We'll also be hosting visitors from a Model-A antique car club that afternoon!

We will, however, be welcoming trick-or-treaters from 4:30 to 6:30ish, with crafty Halloween activities in our dining room until 7 pm.

After 7, we'll break out the Pumpkin Beer and focus on Zombie Party festivities, celebrating our "return from the dead" after closing our doors on Main Street, Halloween Night 2006.

We'll be giving prizes for best ADULT costume!

* Don't forget, Debi Rogers is hosting Ghost Walks at 9 pm and midnight! Contact Debi for more information!

Hooray for Volunteer Slice Girls!

We had a great experience with our first Hummingbird Festival, but it would not have been possible without some AMAZING people who stepped in to to help us!

A big, big thank you to volunteer Slice Girl Ami Irvin (left) for spending her entire weekend with us! Throughout the festival, we were joined by Nichole Evans, Melissa Sizemore, Deanna Irvin, Karen Mansour, and the youngest slice girl ever, Elizabeth Mansour.

We also send out big thank yous to Jon Jenkins, who drove in from Atlanta just to help us out; Eric and Jimmy Irvin, for loading and unloading our equipment; Randy Sizemore for his tent-raising expertise; and Jimmy Sizemore, who has loaned us his big green truck so often and for so long that people think it belongs to me. In fact, we can't send enough thanks to the entire Sizemore clan for being so supportive of Nick's (and generous with their indoor plumbing during festival weekend!)

We are truly blessed to have customers-become-friends who are so generous with their time, enthusiasm and support of our efforts to build this business. THANK YOU!!

Oh! We'd be remiss if we failed to thank Ted Williams of Hawg Heaven Barbecue for loaning us the wonderfully convenient ice box (on wheels!) and ice to go in it! And special thanks to Mary Stewart, for encouraging us to do this in the first place!

More Power To Us

....Pizza Baking Power, that is!

In the very near future we'll have the ability to bake MORE pizzas FASTER than ever before.

Thanks to the volunteer efforts of our new favorite muscle men, Craig Sommerville, Eric Irvin, Jeremy Kelly and Brandon Crawford. They turned out last Thursday to help Nick move two 1300+ pound pizza decks, hoist them into the the air with an air jack, bolt legs in place and stack the decks on top of one another to create a "new" and improved pizza oven for Nick's Pizzeria.

Alas, Nick discovered Friday morning that we were missing one of the parts in the gas assembly so the oven could not actually be hooked up and used for the Hummingbird Festival this weekend. But the part shouldn't be too hard to get, so pretty soon we'll fire that baby up and those long, long Friday Night waits for pizza will be a thing of the past! This used-but-new-to-us oven will more than double the number of pizzas we can bake at any one time. Finally, the oven's baking can keep pace with Micheal and Nick's pizza-making!

Nick's Is Closed this Saturday

Hummingbird Festival Countdown

We're gearing up for our first appearance at the Hummingbird Festival, on October 18 and 19.

Things are mostly falling into place but there are a couple of items we still need and before I go shopping, I thought I'd give a shout-out to our friends and see if anyone out there can let us borrow:
  • a 10 x 10 canopy / pavillion (without walls)
  • lightweight portable table(s)
If you can help us, please contact Kim at the shop or at 678-877-0242. Thanks!

Jammin' for Charity at Nick's

Nick's is a proud Community Sponsor of Jammin' for Charity on October 25. See details here!

Sylvia Boston Goes Hollywood

Congratulations to Sylvia Boston, winner of our recent drawing for FREE movie passes to Regal Theater. Sylvia was among the customers responded to our "Wanted" call to get the old Nick's Menu off the streets!

If you still have an old Nick's menu on hand (the read and white tri-fold menu without the black box across the top of the front panel,) we'll accept it in trade for $1 off with any purchase of ten dollars or more. We won't continue this deal for much longer, so don't wait to bring in your menu and enter future drawings!

New Team Members at Nick's

Given the rising cost of delivery service (not just fuel, but insurance and other peripheral expenses) as well as labor costs, we have decided against hiring another delivery driver in the immediate future. We are temporarily suspending delivery service on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

To encourage you to consider dining-in as an alternative, we've hired the exceptionally charming Misty Hixson (soon-to-be Misty Kelly) as your new dining room server. Misty is already proving herself to be a favorite among customers even though she is new to this kind of work! We hope you'll come in soon to enjoy Misty's southern charm and welcoming smile! As great as our food is when it's delivered, just think how tasty it is straight out of the oven!

Casey Houston has gracioously offered to continue being our Volunteer driver on Thursdays for the time being, and long time staff member Taylor Peeler looks forward to seeing delivery customers every weekend! Please consider rising fuel costs when tipping your driver - they don't pocket the entire delivery fee since it's intended to help cover our own expenses relating to delivery.

Our Menu Collection Still Growing!

If you've visited our dining room, you've probably browsed the collection of menus tacked to the wall just inside the door. It's our way of celebrating our fellowship with independent pizzeria owners around the world.

Many of the menus came to us through Nick's online connections - he's active on a couple of international pizza forums. But quite a number of our menus have come from our own visits to small pizzerias - most recently Pies On Pizza in Fayetteville - and from our customers.

Each month, the customer who brings a menu from farthest away wins a free pizza.

Kathy Newton's family won two straight months this summer, bringing a menu down from Wyoming in July and (believe it or not!) a menu from Antiqua in August. Both are already on "the wall" at Nick's. But I remembered to bring the September menu home to scan and share with you!

Jim Hines came in under the wire on September 30. Even though the pizzeria is kinda close by (Savannah) he was the only contributor last month so he wins! Jim's menu is from VinnieVanGoGo's.

We love to hear customer recommendations of other pizzerias to check out. It might surprise you to know that we consider them to be friends rather than competition. (I admit, that sentiment would probably change a bit if they opened next door!)

Of course we like to think our pizza is the very best, but we truly enjoy discovering other pizza restaurants that value quality and service as much as we do. Please let us know about any great pizzerias you discover in your travels (or in your own neighborhood if you don't live down our way!)

Nick's Closed Wednesday Sept 24

Nick's will be closed on Wednesday, September 24 while Nick and Kim attend funeral services for Kim's very favorite Aunt, Opal McCraney (1919-2008) of Columbus Georgia.

Our apologies for the inconvenience. We'll be back to regular hours on Thursday, September 25.

Welcome, Zombies!

We're putting the call out for Zombies to join us for a special anniversary celebration on Halloween Night!!!

Back on October 31, 2006 we hosted our closing party for Nick's Pizza Stop on Main Street.

Having just marked the first birthday of Nick's Pizzeria, we can confidently declare we are back from the dead! Please join us Friday, October 31, 2008 to celebrate our resurrection.

The best thing about this Zombie Party is that instead of being eaten alive, you get to eat Nick's pizza, wings and sandwiches! So come down and celebrate at a kid-friendly party (so long as your little ones aren't scared of people with goulish make-up jobs.)

Be sure to make a stop across the street at Grantville's Hidden Treasures and other local businesses doling out candy! (See an update on Howl-o-Ween on G.Net.)

**** Note, due to the increased risk of accidents with pedestrians out and about, and the fact that our driver has trick or treaters of her own, delivery service may be limited on Halloween Night. We'll do our best to set up an easy quick-pick-up scenario and we'll accept advance orders for Halloween pick-ups all week. (But we hope you'll decide to dine-in instead....it'll be fun!!)

Lunch at Nick's This Weekend

Nick's is open for lunch every Friday 11:30 to 1:00 pm. Advance orders can be called in to 678-877-0242 after 10 a.m. then at the shop 770-583-2240 while we are open.

Also serving lunch for the Grantville Corner Market this weekend. We'll be open Saturday 11:30 to 1:00 p.m.

Sorry, no fried foods and no delivery during lunch.

Tuesday, September 2, 2008

Happy September!

It is September already...we've been open at our new location for over a year now, can you believe it? Yeah, I know...we have yet to even begin work on the "customer restroom complex" we've been promising you. But we're making lots of progress on other fronts!

In the Kitchen
Thanks to the magic of the Internet, we connected with a Michigan pizzeria selling off a double-deck pizza oven with twice the capacity of our current one. With help from local welder Bill Lambert, we've got some nifty new legs for the oven so we can put it into use very soon. That means we'll be able to prepare more of your favorite pizzas faster than ever!

In the "servers alley"
In the coming weeks we'll also begin using a computer ordering and tracking system....something we decided to do after our driver Taylor Peeler got robbed at a vacant house last spring since it will help us keep track of who's where and for how long.

In the Pantry
The computer system will also help us manage the all-important refrigerated beverage inventory we'll be bringing in soon.
Beer, that is.
Grantville Gold.
(...Or so we're hoping since we do have to find a way to pay for that now more-important-than-ever Customer Restroom Complex.)

I suspect there will be a few kinks during the roll-out of all these new processes. We appreciate your patience as we work out those kinks.

And speaking of patience....
thank you for having so much of it as we continue our search for new staff members...... and rely on volunteers. Especially since one of those volunteers comes with a baby who occasionally, um, makes a joyful noise unto the diningroom. We really, really appreciate and enjoy the way customers have responded to the presence of Lane Foiles. Lane was held and coddled by at least a dozen different customers last weekend alone. So even though he's too young for pizza, Nick's is already his favorite hangout!

(Alas, cute as Lane is, Shelby down at Hawg Heaven gets the prize for cutest restaurant mascot in Georgia. Lane doesn't talk yet, so he just can't compete with the sweet southern sound of Shelby saying, well, she says an awful lot and it's all unbearably cute to hear.) Hmm...wonder if that's how Grantville Mayor Casey Houston sounded when she was a little girl?

Staffing & Services at Nicks

As regular customers have noted, there have staffing changes at Nick's - and there are more ahead. Longtime driver Leighann Olson left for full time employment elsewhere several weeks ago, and server April Vaughan left shortly thereafter. Our end-week support cook, Matt Bullard will be moving to Rhode Island (!!!) at the end of this month.

The obvious solution is to bring in replacements and we will of course be doing so. The tricky thing is that we are in the midst of implementing a computer ordering system, bringing in beer and wine service, and preparing to install a new (used) oven with increased capacity. (hooray!) All of these changes will effect our processes and the skill sets required of new employees. The high cost of delivery service is also a factor as we contemplate our next move (don't worry - it won't be going away, we just have to be highly selective when hiring drivers.)

Of course, we don't want your experience to be hampered by our state of flux and are thankful for the help of exceptionally loyal friends and customers who have volunteered to see us through this transition. We are really pleased that with the exception of some week nights with no delivery service, our customers continue to receive the same friendly, fun service and yummy food we've been known for over the years.

Matt's wife Daryl Bullard and new Glanton School student teacher Amanda Foiles have been volunteering in the dining room, and your dedicated mayor and "library lady" Casey Houston has been providing delivery on Thursdays, traditionally the most popular night for deliveries after weekend. (In an exciting turn of events, weekend driver Taylor Peeler was able to stay on at Nick's after a "my husband is moving to night shift" scare earlier this summer.)

We are currently interviewing prospective employees, and expect it to be at least mid-September before we are fully staffed and have new systems in place. Until then, you may be seeing more new "temporary" faces. Our helpers are all working for tips (don't worry, we checked that out with the State labor people!) so if you are in a position to thank them for helping to keep your local pizzeria going and growing, please do so.

All new hires will be part time - remember, we are only open 25 hours a week to begin with! Our goal is to have more staff members to make departures less disruptive, but of course that means a week's worth of hours is split up among two or more employees. On the other hand, we are preparing for the traditional fall rush and expanding our services, so we'll have more work available before long. If you think you have what it takes to be a Slice Girl or Wing Man (or any variation thereof) drop by for an application or send me an email....but please don't try to apply in the midst of the Friday night wave!

Many thanks to all of you customers who are patiently weathering this transition with us. We appreciate your support and look forward to giving you a bigger and better Nick's before long!

Have Stromboli or Calzone From Nick's Instead!

Nestle Prepared Foods Company is recalling about 215,660 pounds of frozen stuffed pepperoni pizza sandwich products, known as Hot Pockets Pepperoni Pizza, because the product might contain small pieces of hard red plastic and other foreign material, which pose a risk of serious injury to consumers. The Mt. Sterling, Ky., company has received four consumer complaints and no reports of injuries. Spokeswoman Roz O'Hearn said the reported foreign substance — hard red plastic as well as clear flexible rubber-like material — might have splintered off from a testing device and some of it could be buried inside with sharp edges. The recall involves 54-ounce, 12-pack cartons of Hot Pockets Pepperoni Pizza brand stuffed sandwiches. Printed on the side of each carton is "8157544614D," "EST 7721A," and "BEST BEFORE JAN2010." They were produced on June 5 and distributed to retail establishments nationwide. For more information, consumers should call 800-350-5016.

99 Again!

We are pleased to report we scored another 99 on our surprise health department inspection this week. That's twice in a row! We give credit to our terrific staff (and that includes the volunteers who have been helping out the past two weeks) for being so committed to good health and safety practices in our kitchen and serving areas.

PS for the curious - our single infraction was a stained ceiling tile where the air conditioner ceiling unit "sweated" throughout the summer.

Labor Day Weekend

We will be OPEN regular hours labor day weekend.

We are still "between servers" but our good friends Daryl and Amanda will be volunteering in the dining room Friday and Saturday night. The beer license has arrived but we don't have a supplier yet so feel free to bring your own beer or wine to enjoy with your dinner!

Come see us at the Powers Crossroads Festival - we are volunteering at the ticket booth Saturday morning!

Gator Nights Are Back!

We've improved our fundraising campaign to support the School Library! This school year, ALL food purchases made on Gator Night - not just purchases made by student's families - can generate funds for the Glanton School Media Center. ***You do, however, have to mention "Gator Night" when placing your order if you want your purchase applied to the fundraiser!

The Glanton library will receive a donation equal to 10% of all food sale purchases made at Nick’s on Gator Nights!

Gator Nights for 2008-2009:
Wednesday, September 3
Wednesday, October 1
Tuesday, November 4
Wednesday, November 5
Tuesday, December 2
Wednesday, December 3
Wednesday, January 7
Tuesday, February 3
Wednesday, February 4
Tuesday, March 3
Wednesday, March 4
Wednesday, April 1

Pizza parties and other prizes will still be awarded, with eligibility based on the number of students participating in Gator Night. So if you DO have a student enrolled at Glanton, be sure to provide their name and grade level when placing your order!

Happy Birthday, Nick!

Just telling the world today is the anniversary of the day the best husband (and best pizza guy) in the world arrived.

Today is Chef Nick's 42rd birthday!

Also, this marks the day each year when Nick has to stop telling everyone I am two years old than he is (my birthday is in February so in six months he gets to start over with the 'cradle robbing' jokes.)

TWO WEEKS NOTICE

Okay, so this isn't really two weeks notice. It is not even a two hour notice.

PARTY TONIGHT AT NICK'S FOR MAYOR CASEY HOUSTON. 6:30 ish until whenever.

After a long and tedious day in court, the good guys prevailed. The judge ruled in favor of Mayor Houston, who was challenging the veracity of Selma Coty's Application for a Petition to Recall.

In short, this means that their will be NO RECALL of Mayor Houston anytime soon. Ms. Coty has to wait something like 90 days to even try again (which she probably will) ....but tonight, we just celebrate that Mayor Houston can go back to focusing her attention on her excellent work as Mayor.

Even though we finally have a pouring licence at Nick's, we don't have anything besides tea and cola to pour, so you need to bring your own beer and wine.

Nick's at Hummingbird Festival

Hummingbird Festival organizers have asked us to be part of the festival food court this year and we've decided to give it a go! Nick's will be closed on Saturday night, October 18 but you'll be able to get your Nick's fix all day Saturday and Sunday during the 11th Annual festival of "old fashioned family fun" on Main Street in Hogansville.
